Statues are back with The Dolphin, a floaty instrumental synth track with an infectiously hooky groove.

Statues are back this October with their latest single, The Dolphin, a simple but infectious instrumental synth track.
I initially thought it must be an ode to East Londons legendary late night disco pub, but Statues’ Bradley Lucke tells me that it was actually named after a leisure centre he used to go to as a kid. It had a wave machine and, as the track has this synthwave like sound that seems to float throughout, the title felt quite fitting.
Brad’s description definitely hits the mark, as the layered synths drift in and out of the mix, slowly building over a funky and distinctly Doors like Rhodes melody.
The track gradually builds to a breakdown at the midpoint where everything drops and the synths melt into layers of percussive melodies and electric guitars, giving the whole thing a slightly hypnotic psychedelic feel, before building again towards the outro.
I’ve said it before about previous Statues tracks, but the same applies here and it really needs to be heard through a big system. It’s an incredibly hooky track, perfect for mixing, with a groove that gets under your skin and would slot effortlessly into either an early evening or peak dancefloor set.
The Dolphin is available as a digital download now from Bandcamp.
