Ian Vale - Panopticon

After a short hiatus, the consistently on point Eclectics are back with a four track EP of driving acid, minimal electro and Nu Italo by producer Ian Vale, with remixes from Blavatsky and Tolley and Electric Disco favourites, Statues.

The EP opens with Ian Vale's original mix of Setback. 909s and searing synths gently tease out the intro before a huge bassline kicks in, joined by acid lines, driving percussion and a dark spoken word voiceover. This is pure 3am heads down tackle.

Blavatsky and Tolley keep the energy of the original, adding a snapping snare and a driving bassline that has an almost classic Fischerspooner / Euroclash vibe.

The EP continues with Ian's mix of Sliding, which starts out as a far more minimal and techy affair. Reverby plucked melodies and moody pads gently ease us in over the first four minutes before the track does an about turn and a heavy, squelching acid line and arpeggiated melodies kick in, transforming it into a driving dancefloor banger.

The final mix comes from Statues, transforming the driving acid energy of Sliding into a carefully crafted, Italo-esque number. Built around a Moroder inspired bassline, the track gently builds over meticulous drum programming, layered pads and occasional guitar samples, bringing the classic Statues sound into the mix. This track is a masterclass in restraint, gently unfolding over 7 minutes as synths and snares tease the listener towards a swirling, euphoric climax.

It’s always great to see a new Eclectics release and this EP is no exception, with four strong mixes, each catering to a different side of the dancefloor.
