The Electric Disco.

This May marks the return of Berlin-based DJ and producer Alex Kassian to the consistently awesome Pinchy & Friends, with his eagerly anticipated follow-up to the 2021 classic Leave Your Life.
In the last couple of years Alex has released two standout records on Test Pressing - the first, a journey into new age trance; the second, his essential reinterpretation of Manuel Göttsching’s E2-E4. Never one to be confined by genre, his new five-track EP weaves together elements of Shoegaze, Krautrock and ambience, showcasing his versatility and evolving range as a producer.
The EP opens with the reverb-soaked power drums and shimmering guitars of 'Body Singer'. A looping ode to the ’80s, drenched in textures and effects, with a melancholy saxophone that drifts in and out of the mix as the track slowly builds before eventually giving way to an intricate piano line that feels like the soundtrack to the closing scenes of a movie.
Next up is the beatless ambience of 'Kinship', an epic soundscape built around the overdriven guitars of collaborator, Mane Clark, accompanied by a gentle floating synth line and classic piano chords that sit delicately on top of the mix. Alex winds things down even further with the final track on the first side, 'Skinship', a blissed-out journey through a wash of reversed reverbs and cosmic, ambient textures.
The release notes talk about how the EP channels Alex's teenage dream of being in a band, and you can hear that being played out on the first track on side B, 'Trippy Gas', an extended psychedelic jam, with its krautrock bassline and guitars freestyling over live drums and tripped out FX, like a long lost CAN session.
The EP circles back to the ’80s for the final track, 'Mirror of the Heart', where sparse, reverb-drenched drums and an angelic vocal are surrounded by all the classic motifs of that golden era - shimmering guitars, drifting saxophones, and a beautiful but melancholy piano line that perfectly brings another essential EP to a close.
As always with both Pinchy & Friends and Alex’s releases, these 12”s are sure to fly off the shelves—this is a one-time pressing, so grab a copy now before they’re gone for good!
