Founded in 2006 by Daniele 'Shield' Contrini, Rebirth has grown from its humble roots into a highly respected label with a vast catalogue of quality house and electronica. The label has provided Daniele with a platform to champion a wide range of artists, both established names and newcomers, nurturing the scene he has always loved.

Names such as Dave Lee, Luke Solomon and Larry Heard have all featured in its releases, alongside the close-knit family of in-house talent he has cultivated over the years, such as Robytek, Chromatic Filters and Gianluca Pegorani.

For their tenth anniversary, the label celebrated with a compilation curated by Larry Heard, taking listeners on a journey through the evolution of the label, featuring highlights from across the catalogue alongside remixes by Heard himself.

Now two decades in, the label continues to grow from strength to strength, releasing and showcasing music of the highest calibre, most recently Paraíso, last year's posthumous compilation from the legendary DJ Alfredo.

To celebrate this 20 year milestone, Daniele has compiled Rebirth 20, a special limited edition double album with an official release on May 15, with an exclusive preview for Record Store Day on April 18. The collection spans minimal electronica through deep Detroit house to the more uptempo end of the tech house spectrum, with appearances from the likes of Alva Noto, Glenn Underground, Terrence Parker, Liquid Liquid and Silicone Soul.

Highlights include Star Odyssey by Luciano and Michel Cleis, which takes Pat Metheny's classic Slip Away and flips it for the dancefloor, the percussion-driven RSS Disco Sun Toasted Remix of Emanuel Satie's Don't Forget To Go Home featuring the legendary Billy Cobham, and Glenn Underground's Cosmic Liberation Mix of See You by Nandu featuring Vâlvâ, whose Roisin Murphy-esque vocals weave around an acid line that bears more than a passing resemblance to the intro of Eddie Grant's Paradise Garage classic Timewarp.

"Rebirth 20 was born from the most authentic place in my history"

The artwork is perhaps the most personal element of all, rooted in a series of childhood drawings Daniele made aged three or four, carefully preserved by his mother and returned to him shortly before she passed away. As Daniele himself puts it, "Rebirth 20 was born from the most authentic place in my history", and that authenticity runs through every element of this release.

As always with Daniele's work and indeed with Rebirth, it's clear that this is a labour of love, and I for one look forward to that next chapter and what Rebirth 30 might bring.
