Lady Bug is the debut 4-track EP from Oakland-based ambient guitar and bass musician Sulah Jordan. Originally released as a digital download back in 2023, the EP had a super limited vinyl run earlier this year, unsurprisingly selling out almost instantly.

Sulah’s music treads a delicate path between ambient and jazz, blending guitar and bass with flute, sax, voice, and percussion to create a soothing soundscape that eases the listener into a state of calm and tranquility.

“Lady Bug” opens with “Jasmine,” a dreamy tapestry of flute, vocals, and guitar, weaving through Sulah’s intricate bass playing and gentle percussion, beautifully setting the tone for the rest of the EP.

With ‘Large Leaves from Old Trees,’ Sulah takes you even deeper into a meditative state, gently repeating the mantra ‘breathe in faith, breathe out fear’ over delicate guitar and keys, while the next track, ‘Musée Mélancolique’ sees Sulah bringing her breathy vocals to the forefront, blending them with jazzy keys and Martín Perna’s lush, reverb-drenched tenor sax to craft an intimate, late-night soundscape.

Sulah closes the EP with the ambient textures of “Goodnight Buggy,” layering sounds of nature and running water over barely audible glimpses of guitar and keys, to deliver a final wave of calm that feels like the gentle embrace of a summer evening.

This is a truly stunning EP, filled with ethereal and meditative sounds that are both serene and transcendent. Sulah is a uniquely talented artist, and I can’t wait to hear what the future holds for her.
