Sounds From The Pound Vol.1 is the first release on Puppy Cuts, the new label from San Francisco producers Vin Sol and Five, aka Triple Five Soul.
It's a killer four-track EP of deep house, jacking beats, gospel samples and soulful chords, perfectly capturing the sound of classic '90s house.
Blocked opens the EP with the heaviest of the four tracks, with thumping 909s, delayed 303s and cut-up, screaming diva vocals coming together for a driving, peak-time workout.
Come Over Mackin and Grocery Bag keep the tempo up but take things deeper with a sound that harks back to the UK's early garage house scene, with bumping 909s and reverb-heavy rim shots forming the backdrop to deep, rolling basslines, chopped-up soulful vocals, lo-fi pads and keys.
Roll Models closes out the EP with another deep cut that wouldn't have sounded out of place on an early Strictly Rhythm release, its M1 organ bassline and classic "C'mon – hah!" vocal sample firmly rooted in the golden era of '90s deep house.
This is a killer release from start to finish. It's classic house that pulls no punches, doesn't hide its influences and heads straight for the dancefloor.
Sounds From The Pound Vol. 1 is available now on Puppy Cuts from Planet Wax and all other good record shops.
