Quiet Village - Till The Doctor Gets Back artwork

Quiet Village's Joel Martin and Matt Edwards have been blurring the lines between genres for almost two decades, carving an eclectic path through Psychedelic Rock, Balearica, Cosmic Disco, Dub and Techno.

From their early releases on Whatever We Want and the sought-after debut album Silent Movie, to 2024's incredible Reunion and their recent collaboration with Vanessa Daou on Naked Hunger, every release has been met with rave reviews, often quickly selling out and becoming favourites with DJs and collectors alike.

Their latest single, Till the Doctor Gets Back, is a cover of Barry Reynolds' funky reggae classic, which was originally released on Island Records in the early '80s and featured Robbie Shakespeare, Sly Dunbar, Wally Badarou alongside other Compass Point legends.

The Quiet Village rework reimagines Barry Reynolds' original with a polished modern edge, adding just enough bite to work either as an after-hours head-nodder or a peak-time dancefloor filler.

Slowly building over 7½ minutes, reverb-heavy melodies and delays galore are anchored by the instantly recognisable bass hook, which gradually morphs from a synth line into an infectiously funky guitar.

The vocal receives a fresh reworking too, ducking in and out of the track as it grows through more delicate layers of synths, guitars and FX. Joel and Matt deliver a masterclass in restraint, patiently locking the listener into a euphoric slice of sunshine electronica that's set to become a staple on dancefloors this summer.

The B-side sees Quiet Village commission their first remix and, in keeping with the dubbed-out vibe of the record, they've turned to long-time hero Mad Professor, whose mix strips the original back even further, bringing the dub elements to the front with reverb-heavy percussion, sparse delayed vocal samples and cavernous FX.

This is another incredible Quiet Village release, once again showcasing Joel and Matt's refusal to be pigeonholed into any one genre while remaining at the cutting edge of the scene.

The digital download is available on the Quiet Village Bandcamp, but unsurprisingly the original run of 12"s quickly sold out.

There are still a few copies floating around at some record shops, and word is there may be a repress later this summer, so keep your eyes peeled and don't miss out on what looks set to be one of the tracks of 2026!
