This week sees the release of the latest EP from Edward Dickinson under his Asa Tate alias.
Previously known as Tech Support, Dickinson has been releasing a steady stream of chuggy electronica, disco edits and deep/tech house on labels including Semi Delicious, Permanent Vacation and Shadow City Records for the last 10 years. As Asa Tate, he has also appeared on several compilations, most recently last year as part of Ariane V's Safe Travels on Nervous Records.
His latest release is a pure uptempo house affair, with 4 tracks that take us from techy acid to deep Italian dream house.
The EP opens with Traffic, a minimal, driving percussive track built around subtle arps, dubby techno chord stabs and the kind of unrelenting 909 that's sure to work a dancefloor, before moving into title track Andromeda, where melodic acid lines, spoken-word vocal samples and delicate arps inject some classic old-school flavour into Asa Tate's polished modern take on acid house.
The EP continues with two mixes of Echotex, starting with the tougher Freak Mix, where 727 percussion, reverby atmospheres and a chorusy square wave bassline gradually give way to a breakdown of nostalgic pads and vibe melodies, taking the EP firmly into Italian dream house territory.
The Deep Dub is the more spacious of the two mixes, softening the drums and stretching out the dream elements into a deep percussive finale that could have easily appeared on a classic 90's Irma release.
This is another fantastic record from Asa Tate, showcasing his diverse range and skills as a producer.
The Andromeda EP is available now from the always-on-point Rhythm Section, either as a digital download or a cut-to-order dubplate.
